Bruce Burton (1886–1967), American businessman, advertising agent, writer, journalist, and politician. His visions influenced public political and religious thought, business, and journalism.
Born into a modest family of a pastor father and a teacher mother. From the age of 9, he sold newspapers, which later prompted him to start a career as a journalist in the editorial office. He worked for various publishing houses. He wrote articles and books. Mostly on the topics of optimism and success. He gained world fame with the book “The Man Nobody Knows”, published in 1925. The book combines the themes of religion and business. Jesus is depicted as a strong, hardworking businessman, the founder of modern business, who unites 12 people to create a business organization and wins the hearts of those around him with advertising slogans. The book was rejected by some in society, and made a bestseller by others.
After that, in 1928, Burton began his career as a sales manager at the advertising agency he founded, BBDO. His clients at various times included General Motors, General Electronic, Lever Brothers, Campbell Soup, Revlon, and others. During his lifetime, the company was the fourth largest in the American market.
According to Burton, as one of the most famous advertising agents of his time, correctly and purposefully selected advertising, tailored to the target segment and transmitted through the right channels is an important prerequisite for the success of the company. In order to save money, many companies refuse advertising activities, especially in times of crisis, which ultimately costs the business more than the money spent on advertising.
In our era, social media has made it especially easy to reach large masses of consumers through advertising, and this does not always mean high-budget advertising. With proper management and analysis of a company's social media, a purposefully selected media strategy, and the provision of relevant content to the user, it is possible to achieve the desired result with less expenditure.
